Brownsea Island Replica Camp
Brownsea Island is the home of Scouting and all eyes across World Scouting will be looking at the island throughout 2007. There are several ways to be involved in the celebrations on Brownsea during 2007 & one of them will be the Replica Camp. During this premier event, 40 young people from across the UK will be split into 2 camps and will follow Baden-Powell’s original camp programme. The dates of the 2 camps are 28th July – 1st August & 1st August – 4th August.
Applications are open to any members aged between 10 and 18 at the time of the event. Any successful applicants must also be able to attend a training weekend in Walesby Forest, Nottinghamshire on the 3rd-5th November 2006. The cost of the replica camp is £170.
Anyone wishing to apply should download an application form from www.scouting2007.org/Brownsea get it authorised by their leader and a commissioner and return it to Gilwell Park by the 31st May. Due to the low number of places, competition is expected to be extremely high, so late applications will probably not be considered.
Selection will be done by Brownsea organisers & Gilwell staff. Area will not have an input into the selection process.
Anyone requiring more information should go to the above web address or contact Callum Kaye Agent 2:007 (City of Aberdeen)

21st World Jamboree – Be Part Of It!
The 21st World Scout Jamboree will be taking place in the UK during the summer of 2007. 40,000 young people from all over the world will come together for 12 days to take part in various activities and make lasting international friendships. For all this to happen, an army of 8,000 adult volunteers is required to form the International Service Team (IST) and make sure the Jamboree runs smoothly. IST members are involved with every aspect of the jamboree, including:

  • Running activities like kayaking at Splash!, climbing at Gilwell Adventure or a craft in one of the World Villages.
  • Providing first-aid cover at the many first aid stations or nursing the other patients in the on-site hospital.
  • Working on the security team, to make sure everyone has an enjoyable, but safe Jamboree experience.
  • Looking after day visitors or VIPs to the Jamboree.
  • Leading groups of young people from all over the world on their community action day, in the Starburst programme.
  • And hundreds of other jobs!
The IST is open to anyone who is an active member of The Scout Association & over 18 at the time of the Jamboree. Members should also be able to attend the Jamboree from the 24th July to the 9th August 2007 to allow for site construction & training. The fees are £524 for those aged 18-25 and £574 for those aged 26+. Furthermore, if the balance is paid by 17th November there will be a £25 reduction. If you are interested in joining the IST, you can find more information at www.ukcontingent.org.uk or contact Callum Kaye.
Application forms are available at the above website and need to be returned to Gilwell, with a £100 deposit by the 14th July to guarantee a place on the IST. Hope to see lots of Aberdeen faces there!
